As always, a huge thank you to our rehoming team and volunteers who support NGR for all their hard work.
Welcome Gino, the first “48 hours” and what happened next ….
Arriving home, no problem in the car, just went to sleep. Walked him round the garden so he could see boundaries & a chance to cock his leg. Time to explore the house & investigate a choice of beds, initially preferred folded over quilt but now favours a donut bed in our bedroom corner. Showed him water dish & fed at what will be his regular time. Scary moments, TV not a fan of tennis or football, worry he might not support our team. Met horse & rider on morning walk, terrified so glad collar on tight. Threw a toy to play with, scary. Eats his meals & treats. Reacts to his name. Sleeps all night. No accidents, fingers crossed. While we’ve been busy in garden wanders out but keen to go back in. It’s one big learning curve but we know it’s just time and patience.
One week on Gino is settling in, retirement is good. Now loves the camper van and exploring new places. More from Gino in the next newsletter.
Fascinating Fact!
During the period of the Middle Ages, greyhounds nearly became extinct due to famine and disease. Priests and clergymen took special care to protect the greyhounds, and later bred them for noblemen. Greyhounds were beloved for their elegance and made frequent appearances in the royal courts.
We need your help!
Our beautiful Ellie is still with us after 12 months in kennels could you be that special person to offer Ellie a chance of a new life. This happy, friendly girl just loves everyone. She is 5 nearly 6 years old, learning about other breeds coming on a treat and so ready for her own home.
Just ready to give you all her love.

I want to let you know what events has been happening this year at NGR or Greyhound Central as I affectionally call it.
Lets start with the NGR Extravaganza at Druridge Bay, the weather was fantastic, lots of greyhounds came and enjoyed walking round the lake, the yummy sausage catch and of course the “fun” agility course. I even won a rosette. This event is now a firm favourite in the greyhound calendar.

NGR gave a talk on everything to do with greyhounds to Hexham WI, the supper afterwards was scrummy. Many thanks to all who support these events, it is really appreciated.
We met our fantastic school therapy dog, Duke, he is amazing helping lots of young people and always ready to be given a cuddle. He is a real star and helped to quality check the donations from the students for our kennel dogs.
The Cramlington Meet and Greet saw greyhounds, including some of the kennel dogs join together to highlight greyhounds as greyt family pets. What a busy time with lots of friends old and new coming to say hello. My sister Inky met one of her best friends Inky the Metro hound, tails never stopped wagging. Lots of fun with a fantastic tombola and lucky dip, plus colouring in greyhound pictures.
We still have lots to look forward to …. the Whalton Village Show 21 September, where we will have our NGR stand, come along and meet us. The Great Global Greyhound Walk and show at Hexham on the 29 September. Plus our special Santa Paws Walk. Just keep following us on NGR Facebook for all the details.
